Il mago Merlino aiuta Uther Pendragon a diventare re grazie alla magia della spada Excalibur, ma il regno precipita nel caos dopo la sua morte. Anni dopo, il giovane Artù, ignaro delle sue origini, riesce a estrarre Excalibur dalla roccia, rivelandosi il legittimo sovrano.  Guidato da Merlino, Artù unifica i cavalieri e fonda la Tavola Rotonda, instaurando un'epoca di pace. Ma l'armonia si spezza quando la regina Ginevra e il cavaliere Lancillotto vivono un amore proibito, mentre la strega Morgana, sorellastra di Artù, trama nell'ombra per distruggerlo.  Il tradimento, la corruzione e la magia oscura portano alla rovina del regno. Artù, ferito mortalmente nella battaglia finale contro il figlio illegittimo Mordred, affida Excalibur a Parsifal, che la restituisce al lago, chiudendo il ciclo del mito.
